What is a Landmark?

Whether a man-made structure or a natural feature, a landmark is something that people recognise and is unique to the area it is in. They can be mountains, trees or rivers or they could be buildings and statues like the Statue of Liberty in the United States.

Originally, landmarks were a way for explorers to find their way around the world or to a particular area. They can also be a way to help a person remember things about a place, or they can be a famous building or statue that is important to the culture of that place.

In a city, there are many different kinds of landmarks. Some are very old and important to the culture, such as the pyramids in Egypt or the Great Wall of China. Others are new and have clever engineering or a new design. There are even some that are so big and beautiful that they are protected by governments.

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. It is a symbol of the United States and greets visitors when they arrive in the country. It is also a symbol of freedom and equality for immigrants.

A landmark can be either natural or man-made, it can be a mountain, tree or river that is very easy to see. It can be a famous building or a statue that is very famous.

There are some landmarks that have been made of concrete, such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Taj Mahal in India. There are also some landmarks that are just beautiful and amazing, such as the Pyramids in Egypt or Niagara Falls in the USA/Canada.

Some of the most famous landmarks are also famous for their stories and history. For example, the Statue of Liberty is a famous landmark that has greeted millions of visitors to the United States and it is also a symbol of freedom and equality.
