Silver Kiddush Cup Repair

A silver kiddush cup is used to hold wine or grape juice for the sanctification of Shabbat, Jewish holidays and special lifecycle events through a ceremony with the blessings that are said over the beverage. Kiddush cups are a wonderful addition to any home and can be a treasured gift for any Bar or Bat Mitzvah, wedding, new baby, or even just a regular day!

Kiddush cups can be crafted from many materials including gold, silver, pewter, fine china and pottery. They can be ornately decorated with fruit like grapes to symbolize the wine or grape juice that is going to be blessed and also engraved with names, initials or bible passages.

The most common material that is crafted into a kiddush cup is sterling silver. It is the most durable and also the most elegant of all the materials. Silver is antibacterial and also anti-fungal, so it can help to keep the wine clean in the cup. Silver is also very easy to care for and will not tarnish or corrode. Silver can be washed with warm water, and then wiped down with a dry cloth or paper towel to prevent scratches or other damage to the surface of the silver.

This particular sterling silver kiddush cup was brought to me for repair after it was chewed up very badly in a garbage disposal. The sterling silver was very thin and it had suffered from several bent stems along with dents, gouges and damage to the chased and repousse decoration on the base. I was able to carefully improve all of these damages and return this beautiful silver cup back to its owner in time for her son’s wedding. silver kiddush cup
